Our little Las Vegas primary has grown quite a bit in recent months, and I'm super excited that our presidency has decided to split the primary and do separate junior and senior singing times this year! I believe it will be a lot easier to teach and review songs this way, as I can now tailor activities to better suit the attention spans, interests, and development of two age groups instead of trying to cover a much larger range. Before I felt like the youngest and the oldest kids in primary got slightly neglected because I had to appeal to the median age of all the children.
I realize two separate singing times will mean double the work (especially if I'm trying to cater to each age group), as I will need to plan two different singing time activities, or one with adaptations. To stay organized and make sure I plan ahead, cover all the songs we're wanting to sing this year, and have meaningful activities centered around the week's "Come, Follow Me" Lesson, I created this simple planner for myself.
It's only been a couple of weeks since I started using it, but I already feel so much more prepared for primary, so I wanted to share it with other music leaders looking for singing time planners to start the year off right. Being a primary chorister is the best calling in the entire church, but it can be a lot of work! I've found better planning makes a huge difference in what activities I'm able to do each week and in how well they turn out.

Each month has a section to note birthdays and baptisms, outlines the "Come, Follow Me" lesson schedule, lists the suggested songs for the month, has room to plan what other songs you want to focus on singing, and provides a space for you to consider monthly goals.
The weekly planner pages have space to list the songs you want to sing that Sunday, room to write out your activity plan(s), and a section to jot down notes on how it all went. We've all had those, "That was a winner!" activities we don't want to forget, and the occasional, "I'm never making that mistake again" moments. So, help yourself or a future chorister by taking a minute to reflect on how your singing time plans went after church each week.
